“A TRIBUTE TO A GOOD MAN, JAY JAY”

“A very dedicated, talented, and well-loved friend,” said Dato’ Freddie when
remembering the musician and his fellow comrade, Jay Jay, whose real name was
Mohd Fauzi bin Darus.

Jay Jay passed away on 4 August 2024 at the age of 67. According to Dato’ Freddie, the late Jay Jay’s youngest daughter, Nur Camelia— also known as Cammy—contacted him and expressed her wish to organize a tribute
performance to honor her father’s legacy and contributions to the local music
industry.

Answering this call, a group of fellow artists and friends who had worked
with Jay Jay came together to organize a special evening titled “Malam Rindu
Bayangan.” The event is scheduled to be held on Sunday, 11 May 2025, starting at 8:00 PM at the Grand Ballroom, Grand Barakah Hotel, Ampang. It is a three-hour charity dinner
concert featuring an ensemble of Malaysia’s celebrated artists—many of whom
were close friends of the late Jay Jay.

Headlining performers include Dato’ Ramli Sarip, Dato’ Khatijah Ibrahim, Dato’ Hattan, Dato’ Jeffrydin, Jatt (Black Dog Bone), Tam (Spider), and the original
members of Carefree who once shared the stage with Jay Jay during his golden
years. The pre-show features singers Hairee Kool and Tengku Hadirah. The musical
performances will be accompanied by prominent local musicians such as Nan
Saturnine, Rafi Gong, Ujang Exist, Firdaus, and others.
In addition to live performances, the evening will include a charity auction of tribute
artworks by visual artist Fathullah Luqman (Spiral Kinetik Circus / Infectious Maggots), and a special appearance by Tapa, a graphic designer who had created many of
Jay Jay’s iconic album artworks. All proceeds from the event will be donated to fellow musicians in need. As a
symbolic gesture, during this press conference, the organizers presented
contributions to three primary recipients in need of financial and emotional support:
Shuib (Freedom), Ramlah (widow of the late Yazit, drummer of Search), and Ali
(XPDC). The public, Jay Jay’s loyal fans, and supporters of the featured artists are invited to
attend and support this meaningful event. Support can be shown through table
sponsorships for 10 guests at RM1,500, RM3,000, RM5,000, or RM10,000. For individuals, tickets are priced at RM150 but limited to only 100 seats—first come, first served. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy extraordinary performances from Malaysia’s best
artists, while dining and contributing to a heartfelt cause.
