Malaysia’s Beloved Teh Tarik and Onde-Onde Make Their Debut in Globally Hit Mobile Game CookieRun: OvenSmash

(Kuala Lumpur) Two of Malaysia’s most iconic local favourites — Teh Tarik and the Nyonya delicacy Onde-onde — are now taking centre stage on the international gaming scene, selected as exclusive localised in-game cosmetic items for the globally popular Korean game IP, CookieRun: OvenSmash.

Developed by leading Korean game studio Devsisters, the CookieRun franchise has captivated players worldwide since its debut in 2009, thanks to its charming and loveable cookie characters. The franchise has since amassed over 300 million users globally, and has collaborated with major international names including K-pop supergroup BTS, the hit musical film Wicked, and last year’s global phenomenon K-pop Demon Hunters — further cementing its status as a powerhouse IP on the world stage.

The latest instalment in the series, CookieRun: OvenSmash, is a fast-paced real-time multiplayer action brawler that took the world by storm upon its global launch in March 2026, surpassing one million downloads in just three days and quickly climbing the app store download charts in both the United States and South Korea.

Building on its strong international debut, the game officially expanded to Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on 23 April, with free downloads now available. To mark the regional launch, the developers rolled out exclusive localised cosmetic items for each market, with Malaysia and Singapore’s very own Teh Tarik and Ondeh-ondeh among the highlights, much to the delight of local players.
