In conjunction with the KL Arts & Culture Festival ’24 – Pahang, Terengganu,
Kedah and Penang Art Exhibition held from 22 – 28 November 2024 at the KL
City Art Gallery, the Pahang community in Kuala Lumpur proudly presents

A BOUTIQUE FESTIVAL ON PAHANG CULTURE, ART & TOURISM.
The objective of the A BOUTIQUE FESTIVAL ON PAHANG CULTURE, ART &
TOURISM is to showcase, expose and promote Pahang as ‘The Ecotourism
Destination’ to both the people from Pahang, as well as those from outside of
Pahang. The BOUTIQUE FESTIVAL ON PAHANG CULTURE, ART & TOURISM aims
to create interest and appreciation on the uniqueness of Pahang which is
blessed with a legacy rich with natural wonders and biodiversity, and steeped
in culture, social and historical heritage.
Pahang is the largest state in Peninsular Malaysia, and potentially is the largest
hidden gem for tourists to Malaysia. Unlike Penang, Johore, Selangor and Kuala
Lumpur, Pahang isn’t known for its cities. Instead, Pahang boasts of its majestic
mountain ranges, lush virgin rainforests, largest network of rivers and natural
freshwater lakes, and immaculate beaches making Pahang the perfect
Ecotourism Destination.

Gunung Tahan atGunung Tahan at 2,187 metres above sea level is the highest
point in Peninsular Malaysia. Taman Negara National Park, covering a total area of 4,343 sq. km., is one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world, estimated to be 130 million years old, older than the Congo and Amazon rainforests!
Even more spectacular are the natural freshwater lakes systems, namely Tasek Bera and Tasik Chini, which are the largest lake and the second largest lake in Malaysia, respectively. Tasek Bera, located in the southwest of Pahang, is the
largest freshwater lake system, 35 km long and 20 km wide, that flows into Sungai Pahang through Sungai Bera. Tasek Bera is a unique and remote wetland, surrounded by dry lowland dipterocarp forest. The Tasek Bera ecosystem is rich in various types of wildlife, with more than 200 species of birds, 50 mammals
and 90 species of freshwater fish, plants and is also home to the Semelai tribe indigenous people. In 1996 Tasek Bera wetlands was designated as a Ramsar site,
a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention under the
auspices of UNESCO.

We are fortunate to be able to display some artifacts from the Semelai indigenous tribe.
Tasik Chini, covering an area of 5,085 hectare and comprising of a network of 12
lakes flowing into the Sungai Pahang, is the second largest natural lake in
Malaysia after Tasik Bera. The lake, while sparsely populated, is home to 800
indigenous people of the Jakun tribe, 138 species of flora, 300 non-aquatic animal species and 144 species of freshwater fish. Legend has it that the lake is inhabited by a dragon Naga Seri Gumum (sometimes referred to as “Malaysia’s
Loch Ness Monster”). Tasik Chini, recognized as Malaysia’s first Biosphere Reserve in 2009, has successfully maintained its United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Biosphere Reserve status
following a reevaluation exercise conducted in 2023. Due to its topography, Pahang is the only state in Penisular Malaysia that one
could experience varied climatic conditions from hot and humid temperatures in
the lowland to cool temperate weather in the highlands. Pahang also takes pride
in the historical heritage of being the home of three renowned Malay warriors,
namely Tok Gajah, Dato’ Bahaman and Mat Kilau, who defended their homeland against the intervention of the British Colonialists in Pahang (circa 1891 – 1895).

Today, while the BOUTIQUE FESTIVAL ON PAHANG CULTURE, ART & TOURISM
features the natural wonders of Pahang and its heritage, the uniqueness of the
Pahang culture is expressed through its food, dressing, performing arts and
visual arts, amongst others. In the area of food gastronomy, BOUTIQUE FESTIVAL
ON PAHANG CULTURE, ART & TOURISM showcases three gourmet dishes unique
to Pahang, none other than Pais Ikan Patin Tempoyak, Sambal Hitam and Puding
Di Raja (once only served in the Royal household), brought to you directly from Kuantan Pahang by Chef Eilah, made from family recipes handed down from generations.

In the area of Visual Arts, we are showcasing for the first time talented female
artists from Pahang who are as follows:

1) Dato’ Ranita Mohd Hussein 2) Maba
Jaffar 3) Cikgu Najihah Lee Abdullah 4) Nor Aida Mohamad 5) Nor Hasma Md Ali
Our heartfelt thank you to the YAB Dato’ Sri Diraja Haji Wan Rosdy bin Wan Ismail, Menteri Besar Pahang for his support of the BOUTIQUE FESTIVAL ON PAHANG CULTURE, ART & TOURISM and making it possible to pull together like minded Anak Pahang and pool their knowledge, talents and passion to showcase
Pahang with much pride and love

In the Performing Arts, Pahang is proud to celebrate the success of our homegrown talent, a World
Class Singing Superstar, YBhg Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza, who has made Malaysia proud from her accolades
and achievements that have gone beyond borders.

A special mention goes out to a very talented textile artist, Rania Dato’ Sean Wang, who is dyslexic
whereby she perceives colours and stories through her own lens and world view. Hence, we are
honoured to showcase her work, which is as special as she is. Rania’s work certainly complements the
intricate and delicate, traditional textile heritage of Tenun Pahang.
A special thanks to YBhg. Dato’ Zainuddin Yaacob, a close associate of the Pahang community in Kuala
Lumpur, for his advice and assistance towards organizing this historic BOUTIQUE FESTIVAL ON PAHANG

Last but not least, the KL Arts and Culture Festival Founder and the Chairman of Festival KLAC Festival,
Puan Maizon Omar, the KL City Art Gallery and the KL Jazz and Arts Centre for the venue.
